I know what it's like to be paralyzed. It was one cold morning in my house when I noticed that my legs felt extremely weak. I stood up to go lay down when all of a sudden, my legs completely gave out from under me. So I just sit there on the ground and i try to get back up, wondering what had just happened. I had realized that i couldn't move my legs at all.

That's when it all started. In just one morning, my life had changed. Before i knew it i was in the emergency room. I remember them telling me that i had Guillain-Barre Syndrome, which is basically where the coating on your nerves gets attacked. It was a very long 4 days in that hospital, but when i returned home it was only getting worse. I was lying on the couch one evening when pins and needles shot through my entire body. My body was paralyzed which had never happened before. So we decided to go see a neurologist.

The neurologist did a horrible shock test which is when he shot bolts of electricity through my body, to see how fast my nerves would react. That was when he told me that it wasn’t actually Guillain-Barre syndrome. It was something called the West Nile Virus which was passed on by a mosquito. I was the only one in Ventura who had it.

The West Nile Virus had changed my life so that i couldn't participate in certain activities and can’t remember a lot of things or just get confused. So to this day i am still struggling with getting paralyzed due to the West Nile Virus.
